Nicolas Michelin – ANMA   Paris

Avis et propos construits

The exhibition presents the firm’s work from 2000 to 2005 and gathers together the questions that arise daily within the practice of an architect and urban planner.

The path laid out within the gallery space traces Nicolas Michelin’s methodology through his own questions. How does one respond to programs and constraints, with what arguments, and according to which concerns should one build today ?

At the entrance to the exhibition, a dense hang of images provides points of reference. Then, three recent architectural projects in Paris, Nantes and Rouen, along with three urban-planning projects in Lille, Metz and Dunkirk, each illustrate a theme — lightness and economy, techno-ecology, ultra-contextuality, adaptation and appropriation — and offer built responses. The aim is to open up avenues of reflection on what contemporary architecture is, or should be.

As a counterpoint to these completed or under-construction projects, studies and research combining art, architecture and engineering will also be on show.

On the occasion of the exhibition, « Avis », a collection of texts by Nicolas Michelin, is being published.
