Atelier Brenac & Gonzalez   Paris

L’architecture comme équation

Building 270 in Aubervilliers, the M07 block on rue du Chevaleret, the hospitality high school on boulevard Raspail in Paris, the Chapelle towers, L’Île-Saint-Denis, Toulouse-Blagnac, Algeco… the most recent projects and completed works of the Atelier d’Architecture Brenac et Gonzalez treat the project as a set of equations to be solved — urban, programmatic, architectural, constructive, or environmental.

Yet behind this displayed mathematical rigor lies a freedom to think the project through, to define its architectural expression, to work its form, and a real pleasure in making, visible in the almost obsessive control of details and their execution. Architecture is fitted like a suit, tailor-made to contexts that are, by definition, variable — which makes each response unique.

These few projects on show reflect the maturity of their architects and a joyful, almost hungry desire for architecture.
